Emilie Tarp Østensgård (b. 1993) Lives and works in Copenhagen. Holds an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Visual Arts.
With a background in sculpture, I work cross-media with pastel paintings, sculpture, and text. Central to my practice is the notion of interconnectedness within the living world. By exploring the relationship between the sign and the signified, I wish to cast a critical gaze on how we relate to the world through images, language, and systems of signs. Engaging with the otherworldly, nondualism, and a more-than-human perspective, my work orbits the experience of being born into a nonverbal, sentient body while living much of our lives within linguistic representations of the world. Through my work, I seek to challenge these narratives—their forms and inherent logics—in order to soften boundaries and create space for other, often forgotten, ways of being and relating.
