Emilie Tarp Østensgård (b. 1993) Lives and works in Copenhagen. She holds an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Visual Arts. With a background in sculpture Østensgård works cross-media with both objects, text, installation and drawing. Central to her work is the believe that we need to pay great attention to the more-than-human world dominated by the creed of her own species. Exploring the relationship between the sign and the signinfied, she casts a critical look at how we relate to the world around us through the power of language and signs. Her work orbits the experience of being born in a nonverbal, sentient body but living most of life in a linguistic representation of the world. Through her images she wishes to challenge these narratives, their existing form and inherent logics as a way to make space for other (forgotten) ways of being and relating.
